Grace Olson, senior at Arapahoe High School, is the 2023 Eric Benson Scholarship winner. This is a one-time $2000 scholarship funded by Sue and Bruce Benson in honor of their son.
Olson has worked on all three publications at her school, which is reflected in her portfolio.
Judges were impressed by Olson’s ability to “tackle some of the larger topics that teenagers are struggling with” while also providing photos to support the stories.
Another judge commented that Olson’s approach to journalism “shows attention to moral dilemmas that might occur in reporting and choosing stories for a purpose.” She also “demonstrates her solid interviewing skills” in the depth of her portfolio.
