This annual conference offers at least one Colorado high school junior the chance to attend an all-expenses-paid conference during June, at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., along with a $1,000 college scholarship.

Outstanding junior year student journalists should apply online and the application deadline is Feb. 1.

This is an incredible opportunity for a total of 51 students from across the country. A number of Colorado students have participated in this program in past years, and CSMA is delighted to recommend it to everyone.

The annual conference will be June 14-20, at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Eligibility is limited to students who are interested in journalism careers, who demonstrate qualities of a “free spirit,” and who are current high school juniors.

Participants receive an all-expenses-paid conference, and the final honor is a $1,000 college scholarship for each student, to be applied in the fall of 2020.

The conference fosters networking and developing lifelong relationships. It includes full access to the Newseum, interaction with media leaders and journalists, hands-on training, tours of Washington’s landmarks, and more. This program began in 1999 and if funded by the Freedom Forum to honor Al Neuharth, founder of the Freedom Forum, the Newseum, and USA TODAY.
