Senior Jacob Chau at Grandview High School was named the Colorado Student Media Association Dorothy Greer Scholarship winner for 2025. He will receive a $3,000 college scholarship as he moves on to his next endeavors.
One judge wrote, “Navigating through your website, it is clear you are a premier journalist – there are a slew of awards to prove it. Another judge added, “You have brilliant reporting skills. Your work is incredible and shows versatility.”
His portfolio is being forwarded to the Journalism Education Association Student Journalist of the Year competition, where he will compete with winners from other states for the title of National Student Journalist of the Year. The winner and finalists will be announced at the conclusion of the JEA/NSPA Spring National High School Journalism Convention.
Runner up in the competition is Marie Calkins, senior at Grand Junction High School, and she will receive a $1500 scholarship. Judges commented on the variety of ways her portfolio showcased excellent examples of improved website design and impressive editing section.
