J-Day registration now open

J-Day registration now open

It just seemed natural to go with “BE EPIC” as the theme. Would Colorado scholastic journalism settle for anything less?

The CHSPA state journalism conference, better known as J-Day, returns to the Lory Student Center at CSU on Thursday, Oct. 13. And registration for J-Day is now open. Something new this year: we will be registering using a simple interactive PDF that you can download from this site.

Once you have your number of attendees, just fill in the required information, save a copy of the PDF on your computer, and then email your registration to [email protected]. Please place your school name/medium in the subject line.

Many J-Day details will be coming soon (so keep checking this site, weekly CHSPA emails, and your school mail), but here a few things you might want to know:

The general schedule features three 40-minute learning sessions and an extended lunch break:

  • 8:30-9:20  Opening Assembly in Lory Ballroom
  • 9:30-10:10  Learning Session #1
  • 10:25-11:05  Learning Session #2
  • 11:20-noon  Learning Session #3
  • Noon-1:15  Lunch for all
  • 1:20-1:50  Closing Assembly in Lory Ballroom

Two of the premier advisers in the nation will be featured speakers this year:
Sarah Nichols, the JEA National Yearbook Adviser of the Year and JEA vice president, will help move your yearbook (and newspaper too!) to new levels of excellence and creativity.
Aaron Manfull, JEA Digital Media Committee chair, will guide you through the process of adding an strong online presence to your print program (and he is also an incredible newsmagazine and yearbook adviser).

The CHSPA Board invites all advisers to join them for a luncheon/general membership meeting, and the cost of the lunch is included in adviser registration fees. Good food, good camaraderie, a chance to meet the board, and a chance to bring up issues CHSPA should be focusing on this school year. You really don’t want to miss this!

Of course, you will get to congratulate the 2011 CHSPA Adviser of the Year at the opening assembly, to enter student work in our Best of Show contests, and to cheer wildly for our first All-Colorado Awards honorees at the closing assembly.

Nearly 40 varied learning sessions to choose from. Tours of Rocky Mountain Student Media. A chance to meet many professors from the CSU Department of Journalism and Technical Communication. Exhibitors from publishing companies and representatives from a variety of colleges and universities. And so much more!
