Our second annual Winter Thaw, for CHSPA advisers, returns with a unique opportunity to report on live arts news, while working with teams of fellow advisers to produce convergent coverage packages. The registration fee is only $25 (helps defray instructor expenses)… the most effective professional development you can buy!

The day begins in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (registered advisers will receive the exact room by email) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25.
John Moore, former theater critic for The Denver Post, will speak from 10-10:30 on reporting on the fine arts.
From 10:30-noon, participants will receive coaching, forms, technical details, etc., preparing for the afternoon’s reporting opportunities, which will be in teams.
From noon-1 p.m., team will have opportunities to interview directors and actors from two productions opening soon at DCPA, plus a new awards program:
• Girls Only: The Secret Comedy of Women (runs through March, and features Coloradoans as writers, actors). Check out some background on the DCPA site.
• Black Odyssey – A retelling of Homer’s epic. Find out more at the DCPA site.
• Bobby G Awards for high school musicals, for area high schools. Check out background on this award program on the DCPA site.
Travel and lunch until 2 or 2:15 p.m.
Teams will regroup at the Denver Post building to produce their coverage packages, all of which will include video and print, as well as social media. We will share results and post our reporting prior to going to dinner. All production will be complete by 5 p.m.
There may be an option to attend an evening performance of one of the shows.
